The Sutherland Tour

A relaxing north bound tour steeped in history

The North Trail up the A9 has many spectacular beaches and lovely ‘wee coastal toons’ that are often bypassed on the way to Wick or Thurso.  This is a very chilled out relaxed tour, taking in the best of what the area has to offer.

*Pick up from accommodation in Inverness and we head north up the Struy and take in the ‘Millionaires View’ or route to Dunrobin Castle – a stunning 13th century Castle that has been home to the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland since 1235!  It is steeped in history and remains one of the oldest inhabited houses in Scotland.  You will have a wonderful morning exploring the grounds and gardens, watching the birds of prey demonstrations from the falconry and soaking up the history in the museum.  We get back on the ‘happy wagon’ around 12.30 and have a scenic drive to Helmsdale – where Rob and his girls will serve you a delicious lunch at The Thyme and Plaice restaurant.  Once everyone is fed and watered we will start our journey back down the A9 – stopping off for a beach walk at Dornoch and a wander around the village centre, and of course as we are passing Glenmorangie Distillery – it would be rude not to ‘pop in past’ for a ‘tasting sesh’ and browse through the Whisky shop there.

*The tunes will be chanting all the way back to Inverness.
